Why must I paste e-mail website links to browser?

Why must I paste links to websites that I receive via e-mail to my browser to be able to view them? My operating system is Windows XP Home and my e-mail software is Outlook Express. Is my software too old? Do I need to change a setting? Am I missing some sort of software to open these links from Outlook Express?

I would suspect that this is a security setting that has been added in a Windows Update along the way. This is to help prevent you clicking on risky URLs that may appear in spam/scam e-mails leading you to a fake website which installs a Trojan or some other nasty on to your PC.

In OE go to Tools - Options & click the security tab. See if the setting 'Block images and other external content in HTML' is selected. Try unchecking that and restart OE and see what happents.
