Hi

I have a domain controller which is in a locked state (CTRL+ALT+DEL) It is still live and working properly however I could not type in the password. I replaced the keyboard but same problem I could not get in! The mouse is working OK...

Forcing a shutdown is not an option as it is a 24/7 live server!! can someone suggest something? is there some sort of remote method I could use? also RDP is not enabled so I am screwed...

Hmmm, nastry. Could someone else have had access and changed the administrator password? e.g. someone with a grudge or maybe someone who has just left?

Can you log on to a workstation using the normal administrator username/password? If not then you either have the wrong password or someone has changed it.

Is there another account that has full Network Administrator rights? If so you could log into that one and then change the normal administrator password.

No the problem is not that but I cant even type! thats the problem...i cant use the keyboard just the mouse pointer !!

Right I get you. Is the keyboard usb or PS/2? If it is a PS/2 connector then often windows will lose the keyboard if it gets unplugged/plugged back in again. PS/2 is detected during Windows load only whereas usb detects when anything unplugged or plugged in.

You may have to crash the system down by pressing the power button quickly. If the power options are right the system will close down cleanly.

I know you say it's a 24/7 system but all systems have to come down at some point.

Definitely looks like you'll need to restart this server, blast an e-mail out to your users and let them know you'll take the site down for maintenance for 30 min..
