Sorry for the delay in getting back to this... We've been slammed at work and have found little time to get on the boards..
Saving temp files can and will cause issues while browsing. I'll give you an example several customers call us and tell us when they view a website they see a red X in place of the image. According to Microsoft the reason why they saw this is because of a corrupt temp. internet file.
All temp internet files do is save the images so a site will be cache should you visit the site often to load a little faster. Other then taking up space on your hard drive and causing some issues, they server no purpose.
To keep your computer maintained we recommend you clear your temp internet files at least twice a month and defrag your computer twice a month at a minimum. You can also use the disk clean up utility located in your accessories folder under system tools.
