Hi and welcome to the community!
You shouldn't need any driver for the combo drive, as All version of Windows will support it. What the firmware will do is update the software inside the combo drive, this usually corrects burning issues, and allows you to have more compatibilty with media.
If you would like to put the combo drive on it's own bus follow these steps:
1. Open your computer
2. You may need to take out the combo drive, as you will have to change the little jumper on the back of the drive to 'Master'
3. You will see a open IDE slot on the motherboard right next to where the hard drive plugs into, this is usually blue or white, but sometimes can be black, you will most likely need another IDE cable.
4. Using a different IDE cable plug one end into the combo drive (You'll have to remove the cable that's pluged into it now) and plug one end into the open IDE Slot.
5. Put the cover back on the computer, and restart your machine. You should now have your hard drive as master on IDE 1 and your combo drive as master on IDE 2.
