Hello,

I just purchased the Buslink External RW446USB CD-RW Drive and it's not working properly. I have installed the drivers and the computer recognizes the cd drive. It uses an USB port and that is fine also. The dirve plays cd too.

I have tried windows media player, easy cd creator and cd doctor to no avail. What happens is it begins like it's going to Burn the cd, it gets to about 3% done and then it hangs and will not go any further. I have waited up to 30-45 minutes to see if it will continue, but I end up having to reboot my computer.

Can someone tell me what the problem might be?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, it could be that your External drive requires a USB 2.0 connection. You may not have enough bandwith using a USB 1.1 connection. Do you know if your computer has a USB 2.0 card? Does the CDRW drive require a USB 2.0 connection or Firewire connection?

I'm sorry, but I don't know what bandwith is. I don't believe I have a 2.0 usb card inside my computer. The cd-rw doesn't say whether it's 1.1 or 2.0. How can I tell?

I did defrag my hard drive, but device still will not record. I still stops at about 3%.

What else can I do?

If you are using the same computer we were troubleshooting earlier the dell I believe, than I'm almost positive that you are using the USB 1.1 slandered.

The difference between 1.1 and 2.0 is the following:

USB: 12Mbits/second
USB 2: 480Mbits/second

After doing some research on the Drive model, this is a 4x cdrw drive, and is compatible with USB 1.1 which is what's in your computer

What the first thing I would is to download and install the following driver: http://www.buslink.com/driver/USB%20...l%20Driver.exe

Give that a try and see if that fixes the issue.
