windows vs linux

Does anyone know the market share of these two operating systems in regard to servers online.
Im thinking linux is bigger but I maybe wrong.

Wouldnt know an exact figure, and i dont think you will find any. Personally i think there are way more UNIX servers then Windows

For webserver Linux/Unix has the market lead, although with the recent costs of Red Hat Enterprise, the gap is slowy closing where Windows servers are being used more, still not nearly as much as a Linux solution.

Many hosts are now using CentOS, which is a recomplied RHE kernel that is distrubuted for free.

As an indication of the amount Linux servers there are in comparison to that of Windows look at it like this, Google (Last time I researched it) had over 12,000 Linux servers and 0 Windows servers operating the search engine. This somewhat clarifies the fact that Linux is more trusted in a server environment and there is a great deal more Linux servers and Windows.

I don't know if linux is more trusted in the web server enviroment. I think we see more Linux servers is simply because of the cost. The licensing for Windows is what really get's people, I'm willing to be if Windows were free to run on web servers you'd see the opposite.
