Virus Related Denial of Admin access
Windows XP home edition
Service Pack 2/IE7 updates (having trouble updating to SP3 or updating at all from microsoft)
It's a private computer, so no networking.
One minute I'm browsing, net my computer turned off, restarted, and my antivirus/spyware programs were popping up warnings. Even though they were warning me, there was no accessing the programs or information on what virus/spyware was causing the problem.
Tried going to my Task Manager, but it's unselectable. CtrlAltDlt gets a pop up stating 'Task Manager has been disable by your administrator'.
With winpatrol I had two exe disabled on the StartUp Program list, stupid me didn't think to write the names down. One I think was Braskspa.exe and another was Jona/Johnas-something. I figured they would just appear disabled like the other programs. Not so.
In winpatrol's running programs section I have zgrqpgpw.exe popping up at every startup. Googled, came up with no info. I keep killing task.
Besides the admin/task manager issues I was redirected to various sites when googling or accessing websites.
There was also the matter where I'd get a disconnected message..while the computer indicated it was still online.
I followed the rec'd actions in 'Please Read Beofre Posting Your Spyware Problems', except for the Adaware. I was also having problems getting it to finish downloading all the definitions (same with the Windows Updates, though still no luck with them). I finally managed to get it to do so after running the other programs.
I plan on running Hijack this after Adaware and posting it later.
So after that lengthy post, my two immediate questions are:
Is it possible to get back my permissions from the 'admin' to use the Task Manager and the other things it's denying me? (I would like to note that the 'Owner' User that I'm on has Admin status currently, whether that matters or not)
And if I burn my files to disks (mainly pics, with some zips, music, and psds), how likely is it that the virus could get on the disks and reinfect if I run the disk? Never gotten a straight answer on that.
