Hey guys, I just wanted to double check and confirm something before I possibly ruin my computer. Is it ok to use onlie AV software such as Kaspersky's Free Online Scan while you have another AV vendors software installed such as Nod32, Norton, or whatever. I know installing 2 AV software programs like Kaspersky and Nod32 on your PC can really mess it up, but I'm not sure about installing software and using an Online ActiveX software.

Actually another thing. Since it's so common for attackers to disable AV software that's intalled on computers, that makes it even better to use free online scans every once in a while, correct?

Online scanners are fairly good. Like you said you can always have one installed and use an free online scanner to double check things once in a while

You are right about not installing two anti-virus packages together as they end up slowing the PC down as they are busy scanning each file. You can also have aproblem of 'False Positives' where an AV program misreports an innocent file.

On-line AV scans will normally use either an ActiveX control or java. When you initiate a scan the ActiveX control will be downloaded to your Pc and you will have to enable it to be installed. If it uses the java engine then you can go to java.com: Hot Games, Cool Apps and get the latest version for Windown(currently Java 6 update 3).
You should as my colleague SICS said, be safe running an online scan now and then as it's not like having a full program installed which runs constantly.
