Hi everyone,

I was using kaspersky antivirus trial version and it did a great job. But all good things come to an end and as soon as the trial expired the system got hit by a virus which rendered the system useless as i could not logon. I have run an windows Xp repair and it is back up but still badly infected. The task manager, run command and regedit are all disabled and system is acting crazy.

Do share a relevant solution or suggestion to this problem.

Can you get into the system in 'safe' mode? Boot the PC and repeatedly hit F8 just after the BIOS to interupt the boot. From the plain text menu you can choose safe mode.

The system will boot a minimal system and no normal startup programs, and hopefully viruses/trojans, will not start. You can then do a full AV scan of the system. Unfortunately you can't usually install applications whilct in safe mode. So, you'll have to hope that you can run an AV scan to clear up the system.

Another option is if you know a friend who has a clean PC with up-to-date AV software you could whip out your hard drive and hook it up to their PC, normally done by connecting it in place of a CD drive and then runing an AV scan etc on it. Once it's cleaned up you can return it to your PC.

I concur with Maurice, I would also run a adware/spyware scan after the virus scan. You should be able to do this in safemode.

the system registry might be restricted

you can use restriction removal tool to get rid of it

(it is in the attachments)

check on the (run command , registry tools and task manager )options

and then click remove to remove th restrictions
