I have Norton's antivirus software installed on my computer. However, it had expired a few days ago. I've updated and tried to reinstall the software but my computer has been infected with a virus, so the software will not load on my computer until the virus is removed. How can I remove the virus if I'm unable to use the antivirus software? Can I download & install other software to get rid of the virus? I was thinking of trying Avast.

That is a good option, another is to download AVG free edition. better still, if you have a friend who is online download these on their system keeping yours disconnected from the Internet. This will stop your PC from potentially spewing out spam e-mails and the infections from possibly sending out useful data or download other nasties. Copy the installers over on a memory stick and don't reconnet to the Internet until you are pretty certain that you are clear.
