can't run ad-aware

I recently tried to run ad-aware but found that the program does not excecute anymore. I've tried uninstalling it and re-installing it and nothing! I tried downloading another spyware program called "spyware doctor," installing it, and running it but it doesn't run either. I then installed spybot and it runs fine but for some reason ad-aware (which I have always used and trusted) doesn't work!
Can anyone offer some advice on what to do or what could be wrong with my computer? I'm running vista os.

Quite often this indicates that some malware is activeley defending itself by preventing tools such as adaware from running.

Make sure your anti-virus is right up-to-date and get it to do a full scan of hard drives and set it to scan ALL files(not the usual default).

You ran Spybot, was it right up-to-date? Run it again but go through the settings to put full checks on.

Boot into 'Safe mode' and try running the scans again - some tools will not run in safe-mode though.
