I was just wondering what everyone thought of Norton Systemworks 2004 and Norton internet secturity. Norton products worked on our old pentuim 2 pretty well, so just trying to figure out if they have stayed with their reliablity.

Norton is no longer one of the top Anti-virus programs out there. one reason is that it is so popular that it is easier for a lot of the virus' to get around the program. Kaspersky is what I use and is rated as one of the best out there.

What kleopatra says about Norton security products is true in that they ate up system resources and slowed the Pc down terribly. then again, so do most AV packages which is not surprising when you consider the amount of work they have to do.

Norton System Security 2007 has had a major re-write and is a lot easier on system resources. May be worth having a look at that version. There are other products out there worth looking at too.

I agree with LoneWolf and SICS. I do have financial planning client who uses Symantec (Norton) and works as it should, however that is enterprise edition which costs big $$$'s and is designed for business setting. Also you never should argue with client so I don't. For my money though, for home or small business I would go with Avast.

Norton has a lot of bloatware, there are other anti-virus programs that work well without using too much resources. Avast, Eset Nod32, Bit Defender just to name a few. Some of the other anti-virus programs try and do too much which mostly is over kill, probably to justify the price.

I also think that Norton has a bloatware.

I haven't tried norton so i really cannot say. I used however Avast, BitDefender and Kaspersky before and it didnt give me any problems.
