Archiving large files

I have a large video file (9+ GBytes) on my laptop. I have moved this successfully to my PC over my wireles network. The PC still has over 25 GBytes free on C:. To the PC is attached an external hard drive with 300+ GBytes free on it. The whole point of getting the large external drive was to archive video files. However, when I try to move the video file onto the external drive I get the message "Not enough Disk Space"!! What is going on and how do I overcome the problem?

Doncaster Pete.
